There has been a boom in recent years with online business publishing, promoting, and selling a whole range of digital products on various platforms and there is some serious money to be made. Digital products unlike physical goods never go out of stock. Once you have created the product you can continue to make money from it for the rest of time…or until it becomes too outdated. The incredible thing about digital products is the minimal investment of funds it takes to launch one of these items. The main investment is generally your time creating the product and the knowledge/ability to create something people would want to buy.

Digital Products you can sell online

  1. Courses. You can sell an online course in pretty much anything. There are courses on language, renovation, investing, web development, the list goes on. If you have skills and knowledge in a niche area, then the chances are you could make an online course about it. I read this article about a young woman who made $100k sales in one day with her excel course. She leveraged her knowledge and experience in excel to teach others and now she is laughing all the way to the bank. There are all sorts of avenues that you could use to create a course and it is a proven way to make money online.
  2. E-books. E-books tend to have a low price point but the online market place is large. Even if you have an e-book selling for $3 per book, it could still bring in substantial passive income. The great thing about writing an e-book is you can write about whatever you want. E-books can be fiction or non fiction varying in length. People have made money writing e-books about the mundane like immigration advice all the way through to erotica about werewolves. (I am not kidding) If you can think of it, there is probably a market out there who would want to read it.
  3. Digital Planners. You only have to search these on etsy and see how many different types of planners that are available. There are yearly planners, fitness planners, meal planners. People love to feel organised in their otherwise chaotic lives and that is why digital planners will never go out of style. If you have some computer skills, it does not take too much to create one of these that looks pretty good.
  4. Printable card designs especially wedding related. Thank you cards, get well cards, birthday cards, wedding invites can all be made and sold online. People love a digital product that they can purchase once and then keep for ever. Cards are a great idea.
  5. Stickers. This is another product that is not necessarily digital however it is something anyone can design and make. Especially if you have a trust Cricket machine. You can learn more about starting your own sticker business here. Whether it is digital designs that people can print on their own sticker paper or physical stickers that you post out, they can make you some extra money.
  6. Excel budget spreadsheets. If you have not taken the excel course we talked about at the start of this article then you may not be familiar with excel formulas. A lot of people are creating templates using basic formulas ranging through to more complicated formulas for a range of different reasons. There are budget templates, book keeping tools, stock trackers, invoice templates etc. If you have the knowledge of excel you could create a whole pack of spreadsheets for people to purchase and download.
  7. Wall art & stock photos. If you are a budding artist or photographer with original content you can sell this online. It is not necessarily an easy market to break into but it is possible if you have good quality prints.
  8. Website, instagram or pinterst templates. There are so many people trying to make it in the world of online business that may not have the same digital abilities as you do. If you are able to create templates for website design or instagram posts that are easy to use and look professional, people will purchase them. I have purchased instagram templates myself, and if I am willing to spend my hard earned money on them, I know others will too.
  9. Templates. You could sell resume/cover letter templates, business card templates, invitation template, presentation templates. These may not have a necessarily high price point but when talking about digitial products it is about the volume of sales not just a high price point.
  10. Video Tutorials. This sort of ties in with the courses but these tutorials could be something more specific rather than a broad course. It might be a tutorial on how to tile a kitchen splashback for beginners or how to paint a realistic face portrait etc. You could do videography & photography tutorials or make up classes. There are so many areas that you could focus on. You just need a topic that you can really go into depth with and provide a comprehensive resource for the customer to be able to achieve the same (or close enough) result.
  11. Work books for kids. What parent is not focused their kids learning through play, most are. If you can create some sort of worksheets, work books, printable activities early education could be a good market. Even primary school age kids could benefit from additional activites focussed towards specific areas like literacy or numeracy. The things people care about most in this world are their kids, their pets and their money. So any type of product that could benefit any of these three things for people will usually be well received.
  12. Work out/meal prep plans. Most people are always looking to new ways to keep fit and stay motivated. Spending a few a fewbucks on a 12 week fitness challenge plan is not going to be a major concern for a lot of people. Especially if you are within this industry already with some sort of established following.

In this day and age, there has never been a better time to make money online. Whether it is through blogging, vlogging, digital products, e-commerce there are so many avenues available for young people. Start looking deeper at your skillset and see if there is something you are good enough at that could be monetized in some way online. You don’t necessarily have to be an expert, just a few steps ahead of your audience and customers.
